Your Guide to the Most Frequently Asked Questions

Calling Your Nurse

The NURSE call button is located at your bedside. Each bathroom also has an emergency NURSE call system. Breath-activated call buttons are available for patients who need them.

Hourly Rounding

During your stay, you will be visited by one of our healthcare team members every hour between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., and every two hours from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. We will come in your room for hourly rounding to:

  • check on you and your well-being
  • monitor your comfort and assess your pain
  • help you move and/or change positions
  • assist with trips to the bathroom

Your nurse also will make sure you have easy access to:

  • telephone
  • bedside table
  • water or other beverages
  • glasses
  • call light for assistance
  • urinal and/or bedpan
  • waste basket

If, at any time during your stay, you have questions or concerns, call the department director or charge nurse.

Housekeeping

As part of Steward’s commitment to the environment, we will change towels and bed linens as necessary or upon request. Please do not hesitate to call ext. 101-7966 with any housekeeping requests.

ID Bands

You will receive a wrist ID band at admission. It is very important that you do not remove this while at the hospital. Our staff will ask your name and date of birth, or check a special number on your name band and compare it with your ID band every time before giving you medicine, drawing your blood, or performing tests or procedures.

Interpreters

Tablet interpreter services are available free to patients who do not understand English, either verbally or in writing. A nurse or registrar will obtain these services for you. Interpreter service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Medical Records

Patients can sign up to view records on the patient portal at StewardConnectFL.org. To obtain medical record copies and CDs, please check in with the receptionist in our Diagnostic Center and ask for Medical Records. Proper ID is required. The Release of Information Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For questions about medical record release, please call 772-589-3186, ext. 101-3020 during normal business hours.

Parking

Parking lots are patrolled on a regular basis. Handicap parking is near all accessible entrances. State and city fire regulations prohibit parking in hospital fire lanes. Unauthorized vehicles in these areas will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Pastoral Care

If you would like a visit from a local clergy member, dial the hospital operator. Clergy and religious leaders of any faith are always welcome to visit.

Patient Meals

Your doctor ordered the meal plan that best meets your needs. Your meal plan and/or diet restriction may change during your stay based on your nutritional needs. Food and Nutrition staff will help fill out your daily menu. Should you have any special requests or need assistance, please contact Food and Nutrition at ext. 101-2015.

Meals are delivered within the following times:

  • Breakfast: 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
  • Lunch: 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Family members are welcome to eat with you. A guest tray is available for purchase and can be ordered through our nursing staff. If you have any special requests or need help, contact Food and Nutrition at ext. 101-2015.

Personal Belongings

Patients should not keep any valuables, including money or credit cards, in their rooms. No more than $5 should be kept at the bedside for small expenses. If you cannot send your valuables home, they may be placed in the hospital safe. The hospital will not assume responsibility for valuables not placed in the safe. This includes eyeglasses, hearing aids, dentures, cellphones and other personal items.

Rapid Response Team

You can call a critical-care response team to respond if your condition suddenly gets worse. Contact the nurse or charge nurse to activate the team.

Smoking

For our patients, visitors and staff, we are a smoke-free campus. This includes all electronic smoking devices, such as e-cigarettes and vapors. You can request a nicotine replacement alternative from your doctor.

Telephones

Telephones are at each bedside. You may make outgoing local calls from your room at any time by dialing 9, then the number. For long-distance calls, dial 0 and ask to be connected to an outside operator. Family and friends can reach the patient by calling 772-589-3186, hitting zero for the operator, and giving the operator the patient's name and/or room number. We encourage friends and family to avoid calling your room directly between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. to promote uninterrupted sleep.

Vending Machines

Vending machines are located on the ground floor near the cafeteria, as well as on the second floor of the patient tower.

Visiting Hours

Family and friends may visit a patient at any time during their hospital stay. The only restrictions on visiting hours would be based on a patient’s medical condition, or if limitations are set by their physician. You as the patient, and/or your designated support person, have the right to accept or decline visitors. Please be advised that different hours may exist in certain areas, including the Intensive Care Unit. If you have any questions regarding specific visiting hours, we encourage you to consult with your nurse.

Wireless Internet

We offer free wireless internet service throughout the hospital. Ask your caregiver for assistance to log onto StewardGuest in your phone’s Wi-Fi settings. No password is required.
